Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup plus 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp packed light brown sugar
  • 6 tbsp salted butter, melted (or add a pinch of salt with unsalted butter)
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs (at room temperature)
  • ⅓ cup sour cream
  • 1 ⅓ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ tsp baking powder
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ⅓ cup milk
  • 3 cups chopped fresh strawberries
  • 1 ½ tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and line an 8×8-inch metal baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare the crumb topping by mixing flour, sugars, and salt (if needed), then stir in melted butter until large crumbs form.
  3. For the cake batter, whisk together melted butter, sugar, and vanilla until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in sour cream.
  4. Combine dry ingredients in another bowl; fold into the wet mixture along with the milk until just incorporated. Spread batter into the prepared pan.
  5. Toss chopped strawberries in flour and sugar; layer over the batter followed by the crumb topping.
  6. Bake for 40–50 minutes until golden and firm; cool for at least 30 minutes before serving.
