Tender chicken breasts are cooked with onion and garlic, then simmered in a creamy garlic herb sauce made from cream cheese and chicken broth. The result is a smooth, flavorful dish perfect for serving over rice, pasta, or mashed potatoes.
Ingredients
For the Chicken
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
2 large chicken breasts
½ teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
For Cooking
1 tablespoon butter
1 tablespoon olive oil
½ medium onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
For the Sauce
¾ cup chicken broth
½ teaspoon Italian seasoning
¼ teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
Fresh chopped parsley, optional for garnish
Instructions
- Season the chicken breasts with garlic powder, salt, and pepper on both sides.
- Heat the butter and olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the chicken breasts and cook for about 5–6 minutes per side until golden and mostly cooked through. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook for about 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Pour in the chicken broth and stir well, scraping up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan.
- Add the softened cream cheese, Italian seasoning, and crushed red pepper flakes. Stir continuously until the cream cheese melts and forms a smooth sauce.
- Return the chicken to the skillet and spoon the sauce over the top.
- Reduce heat to low and simmer for 5–7 minutes until the chicken is fully cooked and the sauce thickens slightly.
- Garnish with fresh chopped parsley if desired and serve warm.
