Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups bread flour
  • 3/4 cup cake flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm milk
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp instant yeast
  • 1 egg
  • Oil
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion
  • 1 carrot
  • 3 potatoes
  • 0.3 lbs ground beef
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 3 cubes Japanese curry roux
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups panko/breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine bread flour, cake flour, and salt. In another bowl, mix warm milk, butter, sugar, and yeast. Gradually add to the flour mixture and knead until smooth. Let it rise for about an hour until doubled in size.
  2. Make the Filling: Sauté chopped onions in vegetable oil until translucent. Add diced carrots and potatoes; cook until tender. Stir in ground beef until browned. Mix in soy sauce, ketchup, curry roux cubes, and water; simmer until thickened. Set aside to cool.
  3. Assemble: Divide risen dough into equal pieces. Roll each piece into a circle and place a spoonful of cooled filling in the center. Fold over and seal edges tightly.
  4. Fry: Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Coat each filled dough ball in cornstarch followed by beaten egg and panko breadcrumbs. Fry until golden brown on all sides.
  5. Serve: Drain on paper towels and serve warm as an appetizer or snack!
