Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 boneless beef chops or chicken breasts
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 2 cups cooked Japanese short-grain rice
  • Shredded cabbage, for garnish
  • Sliced green onion, for garnish
  • Toasted sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Season the beef or chicken with salt and pepper. Dredge in flour, dip in beaten egg, and coat with panko breadcrumbs.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Fry each cutlet for about 3-4 minutes per side until golden brown and cooked through.
  3. Transfer to a wire rack or paper towel to drain excess oil.
  4. In a small bowl, whisk together ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, honey, Dijon mustard, and garlic powder to make the Katsu-Style sauce.
  5. Serve by placing rice in bowls, topping with sliced katsu, drizzling with sauce, and garnishing with cabbage and green onions.
