  • 1 cup (226g) cold unsalted butter
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp (15ml) milk

  3. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

  5. Roll cold butter into a square between parchment sheets; chill until firm.
  6. Roll out the dough into a square and enclose the chilled butter; fold and roll to create layers.
  7. Shape croissants by cutting triangles from rolled-out dough; roll tightly from base to tip.
  8. Let shaped croissants rise for an hour, then bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20-25 minutes until golden brown.
