  • 1 lb. spaghetti
  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/3 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped parsley
  • 2 Tbsp. extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1 (28-oz.) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Kosher salt (to taste)
  • Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)


Instructions

  1. Cook spaghetti in salted boiling water until al dente (8-10 minutes). Drain and set aside.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, bread crumbs, chopped parsley, grated Parmesan, egg, minced garlic, salt, and red pepper flakes. Form into 16 meatballs.
  3. Heat olive oil in a pot over medium heat; brown meatballs for about 10 minutes. Remove from pot.
  4. In the same pot, sauté chopped onion until softened (about 5 minutes). Add crushed tomatoes and bay leaf; season with salt and pepper.
  5. Return meatballs to the pot; cover and simmer for 8-10 minutes until cooked through.
  6. Serve spaghetti topped with meatballs and sauce; garnish with extra Parmesan cheese.
