Ingredients
- 1 kg Ratte, Monalisa, or Charlotte potatoes
- 200 ml crème fraîche
- 100 ml milk
- 20 g butter
- 150 g grated cheese (Comté, emmental, or gruyère)
- 1 finely sliced onion
- 1 clove minced garlic
- Fresh thyme and bay leaf
- Salt, pepper, and nutmeg to taste
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Peel and thinly slice the potatoes; rinse under cold water and drain.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter; sauté the onion until soft, then add garlic.
- In a mixing bowl, combine crème fraîche, milk, salt, pepper, nutmeg, thyme leaves (removed from stem), and bay leaf; whisk together.
- In a baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, pour half of the cream mixture over them, sprinkle half of the cheese on top. Repeat the layers.
- Cover with foil and bake for about 45 minutes; remove foil during the last 15 minutes for a crispy top.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
