Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup browned butter
  • 1 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 2 cups peeled and chopped apples
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 6 oz room temp cream cheese
  • 1/2 stick room temp butter
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan over medium heat, brown the butter until it's golden brown and has a nutty aroma. Remove from heat and let it cool slightly.
  2. In another skillet, sauté the peeled and chopped apples with the tablespoon of butter and 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon. Cook for about 10 minutes until the apples are tender. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the browned butter and brown sugar until well blended.
  4. Add in the eggs and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth.
  5. In a separate bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients. Stir until just combined—do not overmix.
  6. Gently fold in the cooled apples.
  7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease your baking pan (8×8 or 9×9 inch) if not using parchment paper.
  8. Pour the batter into the prepared pan evenly. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until golden brown on top and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Let them cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  10. In another bowl, beat together room temperature cream cheese and butter until smooth.
  11. Gradually add powdered sugar, cinnamon, and maple syrup. Beat until light and fluffy.
  12. Once the blondies are completely cool, spread the cream cheese frosting evenly across the top using a spatula.
  13. Slice into squares and serve.
