  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup chocolate chunks
  • 11 oz soft caramels or caramel bits
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter with granulated and brown sugars until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips gently.
  6. Press two-thirds of the dough into the prepared pan evenly.
  7. Melt caramels with heavy cream in a microwave-safe bowl until smooth and pour over the dough layer.
  8. Drop spoonfuls of remaining dough over the caramel layer and spread gently without disturbing it too much.
  9. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden brown around the edges.
  10. Allow to cool completely before slicing into squares.
